Symptom

Connecting To Exchange 2013 Server By Using Outlook Client From a Windows XP Workstation May Result a Password Prompt.

Suggested Workaround

a. Review your organization Security & IT policy recommendation for “Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level” Domain Controller GPO settings.

b. Consider to change the “Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level” Domain Controller GPO settings to “Send NTLM Response Only” (or to other less restricted settings).

c. Change the “Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level” Domain Controller GPO in a lab environment and test the results.

Note1: Following the nature of this change you should understand the implications of changing to the security level of your organization.

Note2: To implement this change a reboot may required to all the server/s & workstation/s in the domain.

d. Change the “Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level” Domain Controller GPO in the production environment and test the results.

Note: To implement this change a reboot may required to all the server/s & workstation/s in the domain.

I have problems with XP clients (Outlook 2010) connecting to Exchange 2013 !
    I must test this workaround.

No, this not working for me. I have tried many combinations and even turnning off 128 Bit encryption but without sucess. My XP clients with Outlook 2010 will not authenticate with Exchange 2013 on 2012 server.

Default DC GPO (two DC one 2003 and one 2012) raised from NTLM only to NTLM v2 only has enabled XP Pro(must be updated) clients to use Outlook 2010 SP1 and connect to Exchange 2013 installed on Windows Server 2012.
