Modern Web App Architecture

Yesterday, I had an architecture consulting session at a customer. They are currently evaluating the creation of a new product which is going to be created as a web app. At the end of the day I decided to create a diagram of how I see today’s modern web apps architecture.

Here is what I ended up with:

Modern Web App Architecture

Pay attention that since the customer is using ASP.NET I have written the presentation layer with ASP.NET MVC. This can be changed to any framework that you use (for example Ruby, PHP and so on).

There are probably a lot of things to change in this diagram, but it can be a starting point to write your own modern web app architecture. If you have any comments about this architecture, I would like to here your what you have to say.

Enjoy!

Why the Application facade is required here?
The Business Components (BC) controls the process flow. The BC can implement the business logic. So, it can decide when to start the workflow, when to flow the data between UI and to the data layer. Every request will come to the business components. which will service it, right?
