A few days ago I have encountered a very nice tool that is called “Team For Word”
Until now I have worked with the “Team Spec” that cost a license compares to this tool that is totally free and with an open source.
In the past few days I have worked a lot with the “Team For Word” on clients sites, we have tried to see if this tool can replace the “Team Spec” and the answer is not simple.
This tool has some abilities that”Team Spec” doesn’t have like presenting all the work items from a query with links and attachments,...
There is a change in the TFS 2010 Release version working with the MSProject.
This change has confused me too when I first so it although I have worked a lot with the MSProject and TFS and have trained many users using it.
What is the symptom?
When creating tasks in MSProject and assigning duration for these tasks the Remaining Work and Completed Work fields in TFS Work Items stay “0” instead of getting the values of the duration.
What is the reason for that and how it really works?
The mapped fields from the MSProject are:
Remaining Work –> Remaining Work (MSProject)
Completed Work –>...
Today it happens!
Microsoft is releasing the Microsoft Visual Studio Scrum 1.0
In this template Microsoft is using the SCRUM terminology both with the Work Items and the Reports.
We can find there the following Work Items:
With the following Workflows:
We can also find the following Reports:
Note: all images were taken from Brian Harry’s post: “A Scrum Process Template for TFS”
In “The Forrester Wave: Agile Development Management Tools, Q2 2010” we can find that Forrester names Microsoft a “leader” between 10 vendors offering Agile development management tools.

There is a Bug in TFS 2010 that shows a Red X On the Work Items tab in Team Explorer.
The Work Items become unavailable and when trying to get thru the Web Access you will get an error.
Microsoft will probably release a patch to solve it soon but until then…
It seems that the problem is being created from the queries section, when configuring Work Items we change or delete fields.
When you load your Team Explorer the project refreshes, the Work Item tab refreshes the queries too and when it finds changes in fields it just stops and we...
One very nice feature came with TFS 2010 that almost no one knows is the Work Item Groups.
In TFS 2010 you can define group of Work Item Types and filter work items using that group, for example lets take different Work Items for requirements: System Requirements and Detailed Requirements.
What I like to do is query all the requirements in the system, all I need to do is filter by the group: Requirements.
In order to change the categories you will need to export them to an XML file, change the categories and import them back to the server.
There is a new tool based on DGML technology that visualize Work Items and there links.
The tool is very simple to use, yet very powerful.
Its a simple EXE file that launches a WPF application.
Follow these step to use it:
Step 1: Choose the collection to use and click Connect
Step 2: Select the Team Project and click Select
Step 3: Choose a Query
Step 4: Choose the Work Items to Analyze
Step 5: Choose the Link Types you like to Analyze
Step 6: Choose the type of Analysis you like to have
Step 7: Click Work Items button to start the Analysis
You can see the...
The way to set the field size is very simple, all you have to do is set the MinimumSize attribute of the field to the desired Width and Height.
For Example: MinimumSize=(200,150)
In case you work with the Process Editor you will need to use the attributes field to add that attribute.
If the size that was chosen does not fit the screen a scroll bar will be shown.
Many customers ask me about deleting Work Items from the TFS.
Here is how to do it for TFS 2010:
Step 1: Log-in to the TFS using a TFS administrator user.
Step 2: Open a command line and go to:
32bit machine - “X:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common 7\IDE” 64bit machine - “X:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common 7\IDE”
Step 3: Use the “witadmin.exe destroywi” command in the following way:
witadmin.exe destroywi /Collection:http:\\:8080\tfs\ /id:
you can add as many Work Item IDs as you like using for example 54,88,92 etc.
You can disable the prompt message by using /noprompt.
For deleting work items in TFS 2008...
