Intro (or how Meryl Streep made me blog)...
I attended the PASS Summit a couple of weeks ago in Seattle for the first time and it was a great experience for me. The only downside of my US visit was the long travel time, and during the cross-Atlantic flight I had to endure a few horrific films (do not watch the "Transformers 2") and some that were not so horrific... In the middle of the scale was a film called Julie and Julia . This movie is about a young cooking enthusiast (Julie) who decides to try each and every recipe in her cooking idol's (Julia) cook book and blog on her experiences, all within a period of one year (one entry each day). From an anonymous girl she turns into a devoted famous blogger and future author of cook books herself.
Now, how does this relate to a technical SQL Server blog entry, you may ask? I have tried a couple of times to maintain a technical blog where I can share some of my work experience with anyone who is interested, but I admit I was never able to keep up with my day-to-day responsibilities and keep the blog entries running. Watching the film got me thinking: hey, this is not a bad idea, to commit to a specific goal, defined by time and do my best to follow through the commitment made.
I'm passionate about SQL Server and even more so on the Business Intelligence platform that Microsoft offers as part of the SQL Server product, so here's my commitment to this blog: instead of writing a blog post every day, as Julie did in the movie (way too intensive, I do have a life you know :-)) I'll commit to writing a blog post every single week on Business Intelligence topics that relate to the SQL Server and Microsoft BI product suite and Business Intelligence in general. I do hope that I'll be able to either help someone in need (as I have found technical blogs of my peers very helpful so many times in the past) or even stir up a discussion on matters that we, as SQL Server and BI professionals encounter on a regular basis.
