Windows Phone Jailbreak with Microsoft Approval

imageThose of you who uses ChevronWP7 to "Jailbreak" Windows Phone in order to be able installing Homebrew applications without going through the Market Place, and disappointed about the discontinue of this project, I have great news for you:

Yesterday the devs announced that ChevronWP7 Labs would open up soon, with the approval of Redmond, allowing users to load homebrew apps on their handsets.

Knowing that, I really appreciate Microsoft about the way they support the community, unlike Apple and Sony who fight the community, discouraging people to do whatever they like with the device they owned.

There will be a small fee for the service, via PayPal.

Regular, none homebrew apps through App Hub as usual.

thats what made MS what it is today - any constraints will lead to loss of market share and leadership ... MS should learn from android what they learned from their battle with Apple back in the 80' , it is still valid lesson.

I think that Microsoft are doing a smart move over here with the Windows Phone device.

They provide you a “closed” phone which is an iPhone like to protect the users from viruses and malicious programs, battery life, usability and protecting programmers like us from piracy.

The second thing, they respect and listen to the community, providing an option to have “guarded” jailbreak.

This is a win-win situation. Give the community what they want and still stay in control.
