VSTS 2010 – New Test Case Format, What About The MHT Files?

VSTS 2010 - New Test Case Format, What About The MHT Files?

With Visual Studio 2008 we were able to create Test Cases using MS Word (MHT File), that means we need to rewrite all our Test Case to fit 2010 Format?

image

The answer is NO, Open the MHT document and select the “Description” and “Expected” columns and click “Copy”.

After that open Visual Studio 2010m create new Test Case and paste the Test Case.

Hi Shai,

Thanks for putting all these information into one place. I would really appreciated your efforts. Now my concern is that, I am software Tester, Recently we got one project for testing .

So, i would like to know

1. Can it will be possible that we can test WPF windows based as web based application?

2. What kind of necessary other software we need to install?

3.What is the script we are using.

Hi Shai,

Thanks for your efforts, but i have some concerns i hope that you help me in:

i heared that TFS export those test cases one by one, so it can not export all test cases with click once, is that true..?

Thanks in advance...

Anjan,

WPF - Yes

You just need to install VS ULTIMATE nothing else.

The CodedUI Test is based on C# code.

Ayman, I didn't fully understand the question...

To where do you want to export the test cases?

Hi Shai,

If i have more than 500 test cases than its very time consuming to copy and paste the script from any document to test manager. Can we have any other shorter or faster approach for this?

Hi Sonal,

I agree, what I did for companies with this amount is VSTO script that takes all the data from Word into TFS 2010 automatically.

Hi Shai,

Thanks for your quick response. One question again, if we have 3-4 more columns in our MS-Word test script then is it possible to transfer the same to VSTS 2010 thru VSTO.

If yes, can you please provide a bit direction towards it.

Lots of thanks in advance.

Hi,

You can perform any manipulation you want using VSTO (or just marco).

It's a little bit difficult to explain and because of this Word Migration is a service we are Sela.

If you want additional information please let me know.

Thanks

Hi Shai,

Thanks again. Yes, one question again.

We have 300+ test scripts in .mht format (our own custom format) in source control in TFS 2008 and want to transfer those contents to ‘Test Case’ work item in TFS 2010 (this test case Work Item has been modified by us to suit our test case template), can it be done thru VSTO.

Thanks again for your help.
