PowerShell Community Toolbar - New Feature - Shay Levy

PowerShell Community Toolbar - New Feature

The new toolbar version for Internet Explorer and FireFox is available and includes one major feature - the option to Minimize Gadgets and maintain the state of the gadget. A "Minimize" button was added next to the "Close" button:

Click it and the gadget is minimized back to the toolbar (notice the Green arrow), and can be maximized again by clicking on its icon on the toolbar.

Another part of this feature is the "Preview" option - once hovering over the gadget icon on the toolbar, you can see a preview of the minimized gadget:

If you don't see the new features upgrade the toolbar. Click on the arrow next to the PowerShell logo and choose 'Upgrade'.

UPDATE: The Update option is not available in IE since IE updates automatically to newer version. The minimum IE version that support the new features is 5.6, for FireFox the minimum version is 2.7. To check the current toolbar version:

Hello Shay,

sorry to tell you that I can't use the Upgrade feature of the toolbar, even reinstalling the toolbar didn't reveal the "upgrade" menu item of the Powershell menu!

The menu starts with "tell a friend" and has all the other items except the uppermost "upgrade" item :-(

I'm running IE8 on XPSP3 ( german version )

any ideas to solve this issue?

kind regards, Klaus

@ Klaus Schulte:  I have exactly the same behavior where the "upgrade" option is not visible on ie7/ie8 and/or FireFox 3.6x on XP sp3 but I'm not sure this is an issue becaue every listed feature appears to already be in place.  Is it possible that the upgrade option only shows up if you are not already on the newest version?

@Shay, thanks for the toolbar.  It's fun and very useful.

my FF install (not the toolbar) was corrupt.  Cleaned it up and the upgrade button shows now despite apparently having the most current version.

IE does not show the button but I watched the traffic with fiddler and ie version seems to do the update check automatically.  I did not see the update traffic with FF.  maybe that's why FF shows the button and Ie does not?

I've updated the post, check it at the bottom of the post. The 'Update' menu item always shows up on FireFox.
