Azure is taking it even Higher !

Last day on Tech-Ed Eilat 2010, and Finally after tons of work on the last two days I have the time to hang around as a participate in some lectures, and what can I say? we have a great team of speakers here that you just sometimes frustrated that you can’t be in more than one place at a time (at least we have the lectures recorded.)

Anyway, the real reason for this post is to get your attention on the new .NET SDK 1.3 for the Azure platform and the availability of the new portal which I both mentioned in my lectures.

Next Meeting of WDC–Web Developers Community

Because of Tech-Ed and a few other large events on this time of year, most of the User Groups events have been postponed to December, and that will also be the case in WDC, so although we won’t have a meeting this month, we will have a meeting next month on December 5th.

Most of the Time, on conferences and meetings we are talking about the newest technologies and how to use them tomorrow.

Because I got a feedback from you that you’d like to hear more about how to use and Architect your systems with the current tools Today(no beta or RC). we’ll have this time a whole lap around how to use properly one of the most usable options on web development which is the ability of the client browser to call services using the current set of technologies like JSON, jQuery, Ajax, WCF 4 and EF 4 and many more…

This will be an architectural session, but with a lot of code and the lecturer will be Yair Shiwak which is a great speaker, and a professional.

Working in Microsoft

After working with Microsoft as a partner, consultant and lecturer for around 12 years, I decided to join Microsoft and work as a full time employee with this great team that I so appreciate.

In my new job, I will lead the Azure Platform technology in Microsoft Middle East and Africa (MEA), and in this role I’ll work with a lot of service vendors, partners and various types of companies to help them move onto the cloud.

It’s an amazing and fascinating world builds on Data Centers, cloud platform, storage, fabric and much more, and it will be the future of the computer world, and of course.. the future of this blog!

I’ll be happy to read your comments about cloud programming, to hear from those of you that already made it to Azure, have an interesting story to share, or have any thoughts on the subject.

I’m leaving Sela

After almost 10 years, I'm leaving Sela, and I'm going on a new path.

It's been a wonderful period that besides of giving me the opportunity to deep dive into enormous amount of materials and technologies, it gave me the opportunity to meet great colleagues and top of the line professionals, some of them were already there, and some of them joined Sela over the years.

Working in Sela was like a second home, you are always treated nicely, and you are always welcome to say what you think out loud, the opportunity to be a professional and share your knowledge, to help others to be better, and also to get help back when you are needed are things that happen on a daily basis, and I think that this is what makes this place so special.

I want to say thanks to people I had the pleasure to work with :

David Bassa & Caro Segal - My managers that supported me all the way, and gave me the tools and the understanding to achieve my goals. Dudu and Caro are a great example for managers that are living and breathing their business and that are also keeping being good friends with their own employees.

Moran Gimpel - Moran was my manager for a few years and she is a perfect example for a manager that before everything else is a human being. She is a one that you can come to talk with, at any time of the day, and at the same time she can also keep an eye on every little detail in Sela College and do everything with superb management skills.

Ishai Ram - When Ishai decides that he wants to do something, no matter what it is, you can count on it that it will be done, and on the best side as well, no matter how hard it is, or if it looks far to catch. There is not enough space on this short blog post to sum all the great things Ishai did in Sela.

Sigal Garusi - If you are a customer, and you are taken care of by Sigal, you can be sure that all your problems will be solved, you'll know everything and fast, and in case of emergency it's better to call Sigal than 911. Sigal is also a great colleague and someone you can always trust with your eyes closed.

Alon Fliess - Alon is one of the great professionals I met, it looks like there is no problem he can't solve, and he always do it with a smile and elegance that makes you feel that even the hardest problems are a piece of cake for him. Also along the years, I travelled a lot with Alon to Conferences and occasionally we also had a few sessions together as lecturers, and I must say that "working in harmony" (as my blog title says) was truly the name of the game.

Sasha Goldstein - It sounds too good to be true, but I can honestly say that everything that this guy touches turns to gold, a great lecturer, a gifted writer, a top of the line professional and a great team player. It was a pleasure working together, and a great privilege.

I would also like to thank Tomer Shamam, Manu Yashar Cohen, Alex Golesh, Shai Raiten, Noam Sheffer, Erez Harari, Ariel Horesh, Gil Fink, Ido Flatow, Assaf Singal, Avi Ballaiche and many more (the list goes on and on…).

It's been a pleasure working with you all, and I do hope that we'll have the opportunities to work together in the future.

I am a Microsoft MVP (again)!

I’m honored to say that I got the Microsoft MVP award for ASP.NET once again. The last year was really exciting on the Web Development part, and I was really happy to see so many developers that “webify” their applications, and that got so much interest on different web technologies, web architectures and integrated scenarios.

I sure hope that the next year will be another good year on the web side, for ASP.NET web forms, ASP.NET MVC, ASP.NET Dynamic Data, Silverlight, IIS, jQuery, and well… everything else that I was talking about on the past year on conferences, courses, communities etc..

This post is complete without mentioning one of my favorite activities that is of no doubt, the Web Developers Community(WDC) which grows every month, and filled with so many great professionals that it’s just make it a pleasure to meet and to learn from.

I would like to thank the friends and colleagues that helped and support me through this busy year :

David Bassa, my manager which gave me the freedom to create and the support to do that.
Alon Fliess which was a good friend and a supportive professional
Guy Burstein, a true evangelist and a great professional which prove the case the you can be the best at what you do, and also be a person that is a pleasure to work with. Guy contributed so much to the developers community since he started to work in Microsoft that I can fill a whole series of posts just about it.

And of course, I would like to thank you all, the readers of my blog and the WDC community members for the emails, feedback and support.

MSDN Event – VS2010 for Web Developers

Thank you all for coming to my lecture today at Microsoft, it was a quick run on a lot of new technologies and it was great to see so many people with so many questions.

On the lecture I talked about ASP.NET 4 Web development, and about VS2010 as a tool, and I also presented the large picture that MS have about Web Development and the combination of ASP.NET Ajax, ASP.NET Dynamic Data, ASP.NET Web Forms and ASP.NET MVC.

Dev Academy 4 Wrap up

Thank you all for attending my session “ASP.NET 4 – What’s in it for me?” on Developer Academy 4 yesterday, and I hope that you enjoyed it as much I did !

I was delighted to see that so many people today are interested in ASP.NET development and want to step up the technology curve.

For those of you who’s been there or for the ones that going to watch the recording I do recommend downloading VS2010 RC (and the RTM soon enough) and play with the different new features I mentioned as well as try to have a side project for porting existing web sites on to ASP.NET 4.

* For WDC members or those of you that are planning to join in, pay attention that the next meeting will not take place on 04/04/10 because of Passover, and I’ll publish details about the date and content soon.

Developer Academy 4 : ASP.NET 4 – What’s in it for me ?

Programming ASP.NET Applications that really works is not an easy task, and finally on the last version of ASP.NET 4 Microsoft did it, and many features that were missing on previous versions made it to this platform.

There are a lot of new versions of many Technologies that made it through the phase of being released to manufacture, and I guess that in every new technology, the first question that come to mind is “It’s great that Microsoft are working hard, but… hmm… what’s in it for me?”, well.. on Developer Academy 4 I’m going to talk about it on my lecture :

“ASP.Net 4 – What’s in it for me?”, and I have to say that no matter if you are building a small or a large scale web application, there are really a lot of features that can take your project to the next level.

So what’s in the basket ?

Visual Studio 2010 for Web Developers – Many improvements on the IDE side to let you write faster and manage your code better.
ASP.NET 4 Core Services – control your cache and session better, and in generally get a better engine.
ASP.NET 4 Web Application Development – better control on web controls, new controls, better on standards and much more…
ASP.NET 4 Deployment – Web deployment was always a pain, and finally there are really big news on that field. better control on packaging and configuration and better connection with IIS 7.5
Web it all up ! – I’m going to talk a bit about how all the terms like : Ajax, MVC, Dynamic Data, Web forms, Silverlight can fit in a project, what is the best place for each technology and a word about the future.

Today at 17:00 Udi Dahan is going talk about Command-Query Responsibility Segregation, and he is going to show the simplicity of how to work with a pattern that simplifies all the work with distributed systems.

Udi Dahan is a well know international speaker, and his lectures are always very helpful, especially in the way of him taking a complex idea and giving a well cleared view of it by an example.

Sela Developers Practice – Demos

I would like to thank all of you who came to my sessions on The Sela Developers Practice (SDP) Conference last week.

On that week I presented a seminar of a whole day containing the new staff for web developers on VS2010, I had a session on ASP.NET MVC 2, and I was participating in a MVP Panel where we discussed present and future development directions.

It was great meeting all of you, and having so many questions on different technologies and different scenarios . I sure hope that we’ll soon meet again soon enough !

Dec 2009 @ WDC – Future directions for C# and VB.NET

It’s almost 2010, and the web developers community (WDC) is celebrating 2 years of activity ! I’m glad that a lot of the community members are coming to each of our meetings, and I’m also glad that the list of members is getting longer each month.

For this special occasion, Avner Aharoni which is a the lead program manager of the C# and VB compilers, is going to talk about the future directions for C# and VB.NET !

I’ve sent an invitation to all the WDC members first, and there are only a few places left, so if you are curious about the language you write with… register as soon as you can !!
