Technologies working in harmony

WDC on 01/03/2009 – ADO.NET 3.5

The world of data access has always been full of lots of acronyms and loads of different methods to get the work done through libraries into an application.

Some of you may be familiar with terms like DAO, RDO, ADO, ADO.NET and Typed Datasets, ADO.NET

and readers like a general reader and XMLreaders and so on…

Microsoft is officially supporting a LINQ (Language Integrated Query) language from VS2008, and ORM (Object Relational Map) to MSSql called Linq 2 SQL , but from VS2008 SP1 there is also support for ADO.NET Entity Framework that makes the future of ORM a brighter one.

On the March WDC (Web Developers Community) meeting, Gil Fink is going to talk about how to work with the ADO.NET entity Framework, ADO.NET Data Services (also known as “Astoria”) and also about some Dataset Enhancements.

This is a great time to get a better understanding of Microsoft data access technologies and have an easier way to choose between them when the time dictates it.
