I demonstrated today the MOSS 2007 enterprise search and during the lecture I thought to myself.
Why not to use the RSS search results to aggregate data to some sites\ or portal homepage.
You can use the advanced search to query the portal, then to click the RSS link on top of the search results.
Copy the URL and add the moss rss reader webpart or write your own rss feeder webpart (with caching) then use the link of the RSS.
What do you think? I'll try it tomorrow and provide some screen shoots. right now it is only in my mind and in this blog.
Update: The OOB MOSS RSS reader refuse to get rss that requierd authentication so you can use any custom RSS reader.
I really proud to announce that I passed today the 74-133 MCP exam - Customizing Portal Solutions with Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies (Including Microsoft Content Management Server). That exam is consider very hard and cover some microsoft's servers and it foucs on both delelopment and administration skills!!!
I really proud because I spent less than 5 hours to study to the test and passed in the first shot !!!

היום היה אחד הימים המבאסים שלי כמו שלא היה הרבה זמן. כאן חוק מרפי עבד שעות נוספות. היתה לי מצגת באיזה פגישה והאמת היו לי תרחישים מצויינים שהכנתי וגם התכוננתי די טוב. אבל ופה בא אבל מאוד גדול מה שנקרא נשארתי עם ה – PowerPoint ביד... המחשב שלי T42 IBM 2GB RAM באמת סוס מנצח לא מפשל בדרך כלל. עליו Vista RC1 (שאני די מחבב אבל מזה התחילו הצרות) אני מעלה את ה-VPC המושקע שלי שכל עולמי בדקות אלה נתון לחסדיו. אני מחבר את המקרן FN+F7 ובאנג – חזרתי לימי הביניים כאילו אני ב-Safe Mode 640*480 16 צבעים ולא זזה רברס. מה אני אגיד לכם תענוג צרוף. טוב מתחילים עם ה- PowerPoint אחרי שעברתי בינתיים למחשב אחר גם 2GB RAM (ה- VPCשלי מה שנקרא מלא בכל טוב ודורש שיפנקו אותו בהרבה זכרון) מחזיק אצבעות עכשיו אני בדרך הנכונה... איזה דרך ואיזה נכונה אפילו שגריר לא מחלצים אותי. רצתי עם השקפים ה-VPC עולה בניחותא לאיטו אני מגיע להדגמה ראשונה ESC מהמצגת ישר ל-Freeze משהו גוטה גוטה כלום לא זז. טוב חזרתי למצגת אולי הזכרון ישתחרר בינתיים עוד שקף הדגמה וה-VPC בתרדמת חורף של דובים שבעים. בינתיים בצד (מישהו עזר לי תוך כדי זה שאני מדבר) שוב העברנו את הדיסק הנייד למחשב שלי אחרי ריבוט עצבני אני רץ עם המצגת ובצד שוב עלה ה-VPC כמו בובה. מה אני אומר ומה אספר מעבירים את החוט למקרן ושוב העולם בשחור לבן כל פיקסל מלמיליאן. חזרתי ל-PowerPoint עצוב ומבוייש.
שלוש דקות לסוף כבר מסכמים ותודה לאלוהי הדמואים המחשב שלי מציג VPC על המקרן כמו צפרדע שהפכה לנסיך. חצי הדגמה מוצלחת ואיזה מגע רופף בין הדיסק הנייד ולפינאלה מסך כחול יפה אין VPC ומרפי חוגג.
למה אני מספר לכם. האמת לא יודע אולי סתם פורקן אולי אני סתם מצפה לתגובות שאני לא היחיד שיצא פרייאר אי פעם. ואולי מישהו יתן המלצה חמה איך עושים את זה אחרת...

Improving an IT Self-Help Portal User Experience.
Few weeks ago I used Business Data Catalog to get data from oracle database into MOSS 2007 lists \ Document Libraries \ BDC web parts.
To achieve that goal you should to implement some basic steps:
· Install oracle client on the moss machine and configure the TNS names file to access the server.
· Setup the MOSS 2007 SSO service. You should use MOSS 2007 SSO feature because this is the simple way to pass the U\P to the oracle against the Windows account.
· Create SSO application that will store the user\password to access the Oracle Database. I preferred to use the SSO for Group and to map AD group to SSO group so the users shouldn't enter any U\P and I can do it for them in advance.
· Create BDC xml File that use the SSO application. I attached sample file so you can change your connection and entities to your needs.
