User-Agent
SortSite - web site testing tool
This post was suppose to be part of the Validating WCAG 2.0 post. But due to the length of the combined post, I decided to split them.   SortSite by Electrum is a complete testing tool for web sites. It isn’t free, but it isn’t very expansive either - the standard version  cost 149$ ( complete price list ). It stands alone, and doesn’t require Internet access (there’re couple of information frames that pools data from the web site, besides those, everything will work). The application checks...
Validating WCAG 2.0
Earlier this week, I’ve published my post about Fujitsu Accessibility assistance . One of the problems with this tool is that it still checks only for WCAG 1.0. In fact, most of the tools out there, are still aimed at WCAG 1.0. Following the post, I was asked for a tool that will validate WCAG 2.0. Since I actually need it my self, I didn’t need much more to get on the search. ATRC Web Accessibility Checker The “ ATRC Web Accessibility Checker ” is an online validating tool from the “ Adaptive Technology...
What’s new in Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0
Last December, at last, W3C published the final release of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 . It took five years to create this new version, and now that it is out, there are many questions regarding this new version. I will try to cover the main issues and questions I’m getting from clients and colleagues, and I’ll be happy to add some more, if you have any (just, send me a line, or add it in the comments). Why do we need the new version? Well, that is the first question that usually...
Accessibility is for people
A few days ago, I was asked to give my opinion regarding the accessibility level of a web site. The lead UI designer said something like “If I understand the guidelines correctly, there is no need to change the design, to comply with WCAG 2.0”. This phrase got me thinking: the person who said it, is a person I appreciate a lot; but yet, something in this phrase didn’t sound right. The point is, that the accessibility guidelines are meant to give the web-developer with some rules and explanations...
Accessible MOSS - The presentation from today
I gave today a lecture about how to make MOSS accessible at Microsoft's open house . Those of you who were there, I apologize for being so brief and fast, believe me I had enough content for at least 2 hours... How ever, I'm trying to set some "hands on" lab in some form, and I will update if and when it'll take place. In the meanwhile, here is the presentation from today, in Zip file. Note that the presentation is written in Hebrew. Making MOSS 2007 accessible - presentation...
Accessibility Open House
Save the date, hope it's not to late (it rhymes!): June 2nd, 2008, Accessibility open house in Microsoft Israel. 'Opening Doors' - Accessibility on web sites This will be my first time, lecturing in an open house, or at Microsoft's, and naturally I'm quite excited and looking forward for this. What will I talk about? Moss 2007 accessibility features The "More Accessible" feature in MOSS 2007 HI Software Accessibility Kit for MOSS 2007 Q & A if there's be some...
Web Accessibility Toolbar
When writing an accessible page, you have to pay attention to some rules, and some guidelines, etc. If you're doing that, you probably  read a bit about that, about how to do that, and so on. But still, no matter how long you're writing accessible pages, you need a way to check it. A complete toolbox for accessibility checks contains several tools that will check as many aspects as possible, you will probably have a screen reader of some type, a contrast checker, and so on and so forth...
Live blogging - Accessible Technology - Gila Gertel
The Hilton hotel, 17:30 (which is now), Gila Gertel from the Israeli Accessibility Organization is giving a very interesting lecture about accessible technology. Do come and listen, it will open your eyes. Gila Gertel is getting ready for the lecture. It Started Now Not to many people came. Maybe 10-15. This is actually quite sad for me, as this is a topic which is very close to my heart. Gila starts with some background about accessibility - Who needs it? How many? and so on and so forth. Now here's...
The Israeli Accessibility Organization in Tech-ED 2008
I want to invite you to a special demonstration. Special activity, that might open your eyes and/or  leave you surprised. I know I was the first time I've tried it. If you happen to be in the business center (and if you don't, just come here ), come visit the "A-Israel" stall. It located next to the wall, just after the "Arcaffee" bar (so you can grab a cup of coffee on your way). A-Israel is the Israeli organization to promote accessibility in Israel. The organization...
Accessibility on web pages - Why?
Or - a personal history of how I became an accessibility consultant (or preacher for some). Hello everyone, since this is my first post, I'll start by a short introduction of my self: My name is Joe, I'm a system architect and a technological consultant. I used to deal a lot wit banking application, architecture and security. May be "used" is the wrong term, because I still do that. However, a year (or so) ago, I've started researching about accessibility on web site and how...
