July 2009 - Posts

SharePoint 2010 SDK is out in a primary version. You can get it here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=94afe886-3b20-4bc9-9a0d-acd8cd232c24&displaylang=en

Right now it contains API reference, along with a white paper for how to customize the ribbon.

Ribbon customization is done using features that use the CustomAction command. nothing special here.

Going through the API reference I have discovered some very interesting stuff. My favorites are:

  • JSGrid web control – I take that for JavaScript grid.
  • Microsoft.SharePoint.Client Namespace – seems like a trimmed down version of the OM that’s available from client side.
  • SPList.DataSource - “Gets the data source for a list that has an external data source.”
  • Chart control -  “Represents a chart control for use with Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 farms that use multiple front-ends, and ensures that the user who rendered the Web page that contains the chart is the only user who can download the chart image.”

Sounds great! I particularly liked the client side aware approach with 2010.

P.S. thanks to Elad Khalo for the heads up.

There are some public details about InfoPath 2010.

InfoPath 2010 Designer New Tabto summarize:

  • Pre-built page layouts and section layouts.
  • New Controls:
    • Picture buttons.
    • Hyperlink capabilities.
    • Date and time picker.
    • Person/Group pickers – Updated.
    • Signature Line (Editor Only).
  • New supported in browser controls:
    • Bulleted, numbered, and plain lists.
    • Multiple selection list boxes.
    • Combo boxes.
    • Choice group and sections.
    • Filtering.
  • Quick publish.
  • Use InfoPath to create initiation and task forms for workflows.
  • New InfoPath WebPart that supports connections.
  • Use InfoPath to design BCS CRUD forms.

But the more exiting feature is definitely – The ability to create custom list forms for SharePoint lists using InfoPath. quote:

Using InfoPath, you can now extend and enhance the forms used for creating, editing and viewing items in a SharePoint list. In a browser, simply navigate to a SharePoint list, and on the SharePoint Ribbon under List Tools, choose the Customize Form option. This will automatically generate a form which looks very similar to the default out-of-the-box SharePoint list form.

Customize Form Command in SharePoint Ribbon:

You can then customize and enhance this form by modifying the layout, creating additional views or pages, and adding rules to validate your data, show or hide sections of the form or set a fields value (to name just a few of the options).

You’ve all probably heard about the availability of Office 2010, at WPC09.

Well, between the many new video clips, sharp eyes can spot some SharePoint 2010 Screens. Most of them are in the SharePoint Workspaces 2010, and in the Office Web Applications videos.

This is the first official public appearance of SharePoint 2010. As we can see SharePoint gets a ribbon! and some very sleek UI. Nice job.

If you the quality of the pictures isn’t too bad, check out the original videos: http://www.microsoft.com/officebusiness/office2010/
