A company considering to start BI or replace old technologies SHOULD use the report, it will save money instead of getting consultancy from the main integrators and all of them are pushing one of the solution available in the market.

The problem is less which tool the customer is going to use, the main question should be, what exactly are you expecting from the solution (static reports, Analytic operations for power users, self-service ad hoc reporting and analysis, dashboards, Scorecard and so on). Many customers think that replacing the technology will solve their “real” problems, but the real life is more complex, solving business problems should be the first step when designing a new solution, then you can search an appropriate solution.

Now, many organization are looking for a solution but they do not want to code/customize anything (they say that the maintenance of such customization is expensive – well, I quote “knowledge is expense? Try ignorance”, then check the bottom line , I think that a good BI solution must/have to include a certain level of customization because many scenarios are not really supported even with Microsoft….

The OLAP report is also good to get the market trend, see how many projects were completed and successful, why some of them are a total failure and many other parameters that should be considered when implementing a bi solution for the entire organization (versus a small deployment).

First, this survey is not new at all. It was called the OLAP report before and they transformed it into the BI survey.

Second, I believe that a big company who's making its first steps in the "BI journey" can save a lot of money by consulting with a consultant or with this massive report.

I've build several large applications with Tersus. Your first question, yes it's free ;) There is also a professional version and support (http://www.tersus.com/#Id=279).

In the professional version you can also use other databases like Oracle and SQLserver.

One of my applications is a Project monitoring tool with about 20.000 projects in 350 administrations and about 28.000.000 detail-records in the largest table. Further there are about 300 concurrent users. We used a 2-tier solution and the performance is good.

For an other customer I converted the database of their legacy ERP-system to mySQL and rebuilded in Tersus the most important display functions of this ERP system (Finance, Logistics, Project, etc.) The customer is very satisfied and no problems about the performance.

About the performance in general: it could be better, but with a good server there are no problems.

With Tersus you can build quickly an application, but because there isn't much documentation you need using the forum if you have a question and in most times you get an solution within a day.

re: Building Application using Tersus

Yes, Tersus is used for real world applications. One of the examples is http://www.neohair.com This is software for manage hair and beauty salon online.

Our company has been using Tersus for 4 years and we've done several applications. This is reliable and stable platform for enterprise level web application.

Tersus Platform is developed quickly and continously there are new features. It also means that the new versions (that are not marked as 'stable release') may be buggy. But what amazes me the most is the best support team I've ever seen.

If you ask about pricing - you may try open source version or ask Tersus for enterprise version price list. Don't know the reason but there is no price list on their web site.

Regards your SQL question - you have two possible ways. You may use auto-generated SQL which is good IMHO for simple queries or small applications or you may use your own SQL queries. So there is no thread of poor SQL in your application.

For our use we've done performance and load tests - because Tersus does not provide official data about it. Results were very good - if you'd like to have more info about it drop me your email (you'll find contact info on www.neohair.com ) and I'll share with you the tests results.

I have to admit that I've never use Tersus mobile capabilities. AFAIK Tersus has iPhone, Android and Symbian support - our company is going to build mobile version of NeoHair in near future. But we do not have any experience with it yet.
