Today was my last session in the Dev-Days conference, and this time it was about Fiddler. In this 1-day session we saw how Fiddler can be used to sniff communication, use it as a reverse proxy, manipulate the communication, and how to extend Fiddler with your own custom inspectors and request/response tampering code. We also saw several extensions for fiddler such as the SyntaxView, the request code generator, and the FiddlerScript utility that enables you to edit the Fiddler’s script using intellisense...
Yesterday we started Dev-Days at Sela – 5 days, 15 experts, 25 session, and a whole lot of people (around 600 people registered for this week). Yesterday Erez Harari and I had our WCF Crash Course – going from 0 knowledge to a 100 in 9 hours. We talked about services, contracts, hosting, monitoring, RESt, security, reliability, and extensibility. There were about 40 people that attended the session, and I enjoyed it a lot. To those of you who attended the lectures, and to those who just want to take...
In October I’m going to attend the Visual Studio Live! 2011 conference at Microsoft HQ in Redmond, this time not as a listener, but as a presenter. I’m going to have two sessions in the conference, the first one will be about the new features of WCF 4 , and the other one will be about the new “face” of ASP.NET , which is of course ASP.NET MVC. I have a lot to tell you about these technologies, so were going to have lots of fun (and hopefully learn something new in the process). But before that, I...
During the last week of June (26-30) we’re going to have a 5 day conference in Sela about current and new technologies in the field of web, mobile, desktop, and server development. If you’re interested in Silverlight, Windows Phone 7, HTML 5, WPF, WCF, or simply want to learn more about advanced .NET development, come and learn from the experts . During this week, I will have three full-day sessions in the field of web development: Advanced WCF - Deep dive into WCF, understand the concept of hosting...
So day zero began with me flying from Israel to Las Vegas through Newark, where I missed my flight due to all the security checks. Luckily there was a flight leaving two hours later, so I was able to get to Las Vegas in a decent hour. Tomorrow starts day 1 of MIX, so I have to get up early (this post was written in 2am) to register. I would probably go this time to the Azure sessions, since it correlates with my current work on Windows Azure and Windows HPC Server (I’ll post some info on this later...
I got the following email today from Microsoft: “Dear Ido, Congratulations! You can register to the website, and after receiving your username and password, you can watch the videos from the following link . If you only want to download the presentation and the demo’s source code, you can download it from here . Enjoy.
It is finally over ! no more changes, no more bug fixes, no more uploads, the final version of the WCF 4 official Microsoft course is finally here . I can’t even fix a small typo I found in one of the chapters. It is not my intention to complain about what I’ve gone through in the last eight months, but rather reminisce the last year of my life, like you reminisce going to boot camp (“Tironut”). We started preparing for this course during November of last year, around the time of the PDC. Little...
Recently, I had the pleasure of passing the first Microsoft’s official WCF 4 course in Israel in its beta version (the course hasn’t been officially released yet). The course, developed by several of Sela’s experts in the past seven months, is part of the new set of courses Microsoft offers for .NET 4 and Visual Studio 2010. It was a bit strange to give a course I’ve spend the last couple of months writing, but I enjoyed it very much, and the crowd (21 people) was great and asked a lot of interesting...
Today at the SDP I gave a lecture on the different ways we can communicate with the web from Silverlight 4. We talked about the different HTTP Stacks Silverlight offers and the many communication types & technologies you can use, such as: Simple http requests Restful services Syndication (Rss/Atom) feeds ASMX Web Services WCF services WCF Data Services TCP communication UDP communication Yes, you can do all the above with Silverlight 4 ! In addition, we talked about different WCF scenarios that...
Just finished passing my presentation about ORM & Entity Framework basics This presentation is part of a whole-day seminar about ORM Tools & Concepts Currently Bernie & Erez are demonstrating NHibernate & Entity Framework head-to-head and later on Gil will deep dive into Entity Framework and Erez & Bernie will once again join forces to talk about Data Access Pattern in the real world. We’ll finish the day with an Expert Panel, where Oren Eini will join us to talk about ORMs, NHibernate...
A few day ago, a colleague of mine, Shlomo Goldberg , raised a question about Entity Framework and large models. Another colleague of mine, Gil Fink posted some links to helpful tips for using large models, and I want to talk about one of these tips – using the View Generation option. If you’ve worked with large models in Entity Framework 3.5, you probably noticed that as the model grows, it takes more time to initialize the ObjectContext for the first time. A solution to this is to use view generation...
