A New Professional Website Lately, I’ve decided to create my own professional website. In the website I’ll update the public courses I’m going to teach, speaking engagements, my articles links, my publications link and more. You can take a look at the site in the following link: www.gilfink.net . If you have any feedback please contact me.
My DevConnections Trip Was Cancelled First of all, I want to start with an apology to the DevConnections attendees for not making it to the conference. The arrival to the conference was very important to me and I had no luck. On Saturday, I changed my scheduled flight to a later flight this week because of the news about Sandy hurricane. Both the original flight and the new flight were cancelled, and due to that I couldn’t attend the conference. As a speaker, I feel awful because I worked very hard...
Fourth Year as Microsoft MVP Two days ago, I was awarded for the 4th year as a Microsoft MVP. I’m now an ASP.NET/IIS MVP since the Data Platform Development expertise was retired. It’s is a honor for me to get the award for the fourth year. I want to thanks everyone in the community that read my blog, attended my presentations and finally follow me on twitter and other social media networks. Also, I would like to thank the following people - Guy Burshtein , Maor David , and last and not least to...
The story Begins Lately, I’ve decided to write my own JavaScript library for educational and experimental purposes. The idea came to me while I was creating a demo to a session that I will deliver in the near future. In the session, I wanted to show how to use different JavaScript storage types and didn’t wanted to change my code every time for every storage type. So I’ve created a library to handle client-side data storages in simple and consistent way. The library is called story.js and its first...
Third Year in a Row Yesterday I received the mail from Microsoft that congratulate me for being a Microsoft MVP for the third time. It’s is a honor for me to get the award three years in a row. This time the receiving of the mail was somewhat weird since I saw on Twitter that people got the mail and I didn’t get it… Apparently, my Gmail mail account (which is my personal mail account) “thought” that the congratulation mail is spam and moved it into the spam directory. This of course shows the true...
Not Just a Designer: Code First in Entity Framework Article on VS Magazine Lately I wrote an article about Code First approach in Entity Framework 4.1 for Visual Studio Magazine . The article was published a few days ago and you can read it here . Enjoy! CodeProject

MIX11 Winning Open Call Sessions Were Announced The MIX11 Open Call phase is over and there are twelve winning sessions . My proposed sessions didn’t make it to the final twelve but this was a competition and the best sessions won. From the list of twelve sessions that won, I’ll defiantly attend Elijah Manor’s “Good JavaScript Habits for C# Developers” session and Maarten Balliauw’s “Fun with ASP.NET MVC 3 and MEF” session (they got my vote while I was voting). I want to thank whoever vote...
MIX11 Open Call Voting Has Started Today MIX conference is the biggest Microsoft web conference which occurs every year in Las Vegas. As in every year Microsoft asked the developers and designers communities to propose sessions that will be part of a community voting. The sessions that will be chosen will be performed on stage at this year’s conference. Since I’m going to MIX11 as in last year, I proposed two sessions and they were chosen to the open call voting. This is the session descriptions...
Teched Israel 2010 – Day One Yesterday’s morning I had a flight to Eilat to my first Teched Israel. I arrived after noon so I missed Jason Zander’s keynotes … I wanted to attend this session but my flight schedule was at noon. I thought I’ll make it but the flight got a delay (and oops you miss the show)… After I’ve checked-in in my hotel and checked-in in the presenters check-in place, I had a free afternoon so I jumped to the royal suite in the Royal Beach hotel. If you are one of the lucky VIPs...
Improving Your Developer Skills I’ve been asked twice this week by two different colleagues from where to start in order to improve yourself as a developer. This question is very tricky and probably you’ll hear a different answer from every person you ask it. Also, in reality the “recipes” you get won’t necessary work for every person but they can be guidelines for improvement. This is a short version of my recipe and what I told my colleagues. Read Books This is an important thing to do when you...
Microsoft MVP for the Second Time A few minutes ago I got the mail from Microsoft that informed me that I’m a Microsoft MVP for the second time. The mail is written as follows: “Congratulations! We are pleased to present you with the 2010 Microsoft® MVP Award! This award is given to exceptional technical community leaders who actively share their high quality, real world expertise with others. We appreciate your outstanding contributions in Data Platform Development technical communities during the...
Why I Became a .Net Developer? I’m being asked from time to time why I’ve chosen to work with .Net framework and in Microsoft world. Today I got that question again so I thought it will be nice to share the answer with my Blog readers. In my early days when I was a computer science student I started my first steps in development world with the Java language. At the end of my first year I took a summer course in .Net in order to learn what it was all about. To tell the truth, I wasn’t impressed by...
The Customer is Always Right One part of my job is consulting in a lot of .Net development areas. One of the annoying things that you have when you are technology consultant is that customers think that they can demand from you almost everything (even things that aren’t part of your job role). The problem with these thoughts is that if you don’t give them the things they want they can go to your boss and complain. That means that you’ll have to answer to whoever is paying your salary about things...
