Getting Ready for Visual Studio Team System 2010
In the last month, I found out that more and more customers want to hear about the benefits we are about to reveal in Visual Studio Team System 2010, also known as "Rosario". Team System 2010 is what we call a MAJOR release with many important features. However, if I want to summarize the benefits in two words, I would definitely say Architecture & Testing. Microsoft has put a lot of effort and innovation in the Architecture and Test Editions which makes them market leader products...

EII and MDM on the Microsoft Platform
Recently, I've been asked by one of our customers about what is Microsoft doing in the spaces of EII and MDM. Usually, customers who seek for these solutions have multiple data sources and they wish for an integrated view and queries of the entities in the organization. Before I answer these questions, here's a short recap about the terms: EII – Enterprise Information Integration - A software that combines various data sources at an enterprise level in order to support applications that present...

The Application Architecture Guide for .NET Architects
I'd like to recommend a book which can be viewed as the most up-to-date comprehensive architecture guide for software applications developed using Microsoft .NET technologies. As it says in the introduction to the book: "The purpose of the Application Architecture Guide 2.0 is to improve your effectiveness when building applications on the Microsoft platform. The primary audience for this guide is solution architects and development leads. The guide provides design-level guidance for the...

Relaxing after Developer's Academy II
Yesterday, we've had our annual non-Tech-Ed Developer event in Airport City. We are continuing the momentum of last year with the great brand of Developer's Academy. By this we mean that people are coming mostly to learn and less to hear about marketing and this is what we tried to do yesterday. The event was amazing this year, 5 parallel tracks on the current and new technologies also focusing on the goodies of Visual Studio 2008 which is already here, btw. I had the pleasure of presenting...

Presentations about the architect's role
As you all know, one of the things I'm interested in is the archtiect's role in our industry. Here you can find some presentations sent to me by one of my colleagues. Hopefully they can shed some light on questions like: What is an architect? What are the characteristics of an architect? How to train an architect? Architecture 101 (Mohammad, May 24) http://msevents.microsoft.com/cui/eventdetail.aspx?EventID=1032338971&culture=en-CA Architecture is the balance between art and engineering, it requires...

Different Perspectives on the Role of the Architect
Six months ago I was invited to attend a panel interview about the role of the architect. It was an interesting discussion with a lot of viewpoints around what the architect does? Why is he needed? Where is he in the organization etc.? The problem was that I never saw the panel published, but then last week I met the editor who told me that he published it in December :-) For those of you that don't know Hebrew, I'll summarize the key points I contributed to the discussion: The architect is the one...

Speaking about Software Factories at MTS 2006 in Poland...
A few weeks ago, I was invited by my colleague from Microsoft Poland to speak at their main event, Microsoft Technology Summit 2006 . This is the biggest event (so I was told) in Western Europe with 2000 attendees inside the most characteristic building in Warsaw, the palace of nature and science. The palace is a gift that was given to the Poles from the Russians. It is interesting to see that in the past, nations donated buildings and statues to their allies -> for example, the statue of liberty...
