Looking for a good DSL router recommendations

After using my mobile computer's WIFI only outside my home, I think it's time to move the relationship to the next level: Adding a wireless connection at home.

My desktop machine is currently connected to ADSL through an internal modem, so I figure these are my options:

  1. Get an ADSL router and connect it (assuming it's possible) in parallel to the desktop machine.
  2. Get a regular router, install a network card on the desktop computer, and share the internet connection.

Since I'm looking for the fastest, easiest solution, I'm inclined towards the first option, but I keep an open mind.

Any router or setup recommendations?

1. Drop the internal ADSL Card, go and get a decent modem from Bezeq and buy Linksys WRT54GL.

2. Why 1, because having a router independently from the modem means you can switch providers to cable, expand you network and create a mash of wifi.

3. Having a modem as just a bridge (meaning a transparent to your network) and using a router as front end provide you better security and higher network speed.

linksys WRT54G is the best choice

I would agree with Linksys WRT54GL. If you want a cheaper router go with Edimax BR-6204WG.

Buy a NIC for few dollars.

It would take you 10 minutes to have everything installed and configured.

Can I turn off the WIFI feature? (since I use mostly my desktop machine at home)

In the Edimax i know you can. Other routers you can download the manual from the vendor site and see. But why not leave it open? Routers today support powerful encryption methods like WPA-AES.

1) Waste of energy

2) An additional EM field in the house

I have "ASUS AM 604g", has build-in:

(1) build-in ADSL(2+) modem

(2) network router with 4 ports

(3) wireless router (up to 54Mbps)

(4) firewall

(5) PnP support

(6) easy and powerful web-based interface

This saves me a lot of space and redundant cables. I got it for "free" from Bezeq when signed to ADSL service.

There's a third option: buy a Wifi card for you desktop.

But if it was me, I would buy a router.
