Disappointing real-world SOA and Durable services lectures

After going to Tamir's lecture I had my first two misses - lectures I didn't enjoy.

First I went to "Pushing The Technology To The Edge - A Real World Story", which turned out to be aimed for software architects. Although I did design the architecture of application in the past, discussing theory alone tend to wear me out. In addition to that the lectures spent 45 minutes describing the domain, before getting to the solution his company actually implemented. I admit - I gave up after an hour and left the hall. (maybe it got better afterwards)

The next lecture was Matthew Winkler's lecture on durable service using WF (I had debated whether to go to this lecture or Roy Osherov's reflection lecture, and made the wrong call). Maybe Matthew is a great presenter, I really don't know, but the due to a misunderstanding with the hotel the power went out to both lecture halls at 3pm, and unfortunately for Matthew it create some kind of a technical issue leading to him lecturing for 40 minutes without a projector. Personally I can't see how you can present a 300 level lecture by speech alone. I hope Wednesday user group meeting (with the same lecture) goes better (Adlai, comments?).

BTW, Ohad enjoyed Roy's lecture very much. Apparently having a guitar (for the gamers among you - real guitar) helps when there is no power. Just kidding - Roy is already famous for his cover songs (this time he did a love song, and you can see it in Ohad's blog).

I actually asked Roy earlier that day about quitting the software business for the music industry and he said he didn't feel ready because his songs are only covers. Apparently he doesn't listen to the radio a lot these days....
