TechEd Israel Keynote

The opening lecture for the event (given by Yochai) started a bit slow, with what seemed at first like a recap of his lecture from the Developer Academy event (focusing on Linq).

However, this impression turned out to be wrong, as the lecture progressed to demonstrating PLinq, which is Linq with a build-in multiprocessor support.

Next came a riddle from Sasha about optimization behavior, which turned out to be just a way to promote the audience to send SMS messages (competing for price between people who solved the riddle). This demonstration showed using WCF for communication with the SMS server, and than moved to WF.

The next segment also involved the MS speech engine, show media center asking Yochai about conflicting schedule by calling him (voice) and him giving instructions to the media center by voice command, and the commands being performed (again) by WF.

The lecture continued:

  • Another with another "brain teaser" from Sasha
  • Show the new features in IIS7 and
  • What seems like significant performance improvements for WPF. Yochai also showed a WPF GIS application (looked nice, but very basic, and not practical for most C4I products)
  • Silverlight performance (vs. AJAX)
