SQL Server 2008 R2 (
RSS)
So the price is still right - and yes, it's free! Marina my colleague from work sent me a really great link so obviously I had to share it with all of you. In his blog about Microsoft SMS&P Partner Community Blog , Mr. Eric Ligman has published a very extensive list of free Microsoft eBooks on SharePoint, Visual Studio, Windows Phone, Windows 8, Office 365, Office 2010, SQL Server 2012, Azure, and more. The list is very comprehensive and I recommend you go over it and also look at the additional...
Yes, you read it right, Service Pack 1 to SQL Server 2008 R2 was just released. This service pack (as ever) is a bundle of all the cumulative updates thus far for SQL Server 2008 R2. It includes, amongst others, the following things: DMVs for increased supportability DAC Framework for improved database upgrades Disk space control for PowerPivot And while you're looking into the SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 download , you can also check out the Denali CTP3 download as well (they've been busy as...
So, as you may have gathered from the previous post, we installed SQL Server 2008 R2 in the municipality not too long ago. And yes, that led to all sort of problems... One of the main problems that all of us encountered, was that we couldn't update our report models. Yes, we could start a new Report Builder 1.0 Project. We could define a DSV and autogenerate a Report Model. But then, if we added a table to the DSV or new columns were added to an existing table, and then we would run an Autogenerate...
We installed SQL Server 2008 R2 about 2 months ago, and I recently tried to use a new feature in Reporting Services 2008 R2 . I used the Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) to open a new Report Server Project. After creating a data source I also defined a shared dataset (a new feature to SSRS 2008 R2). I put some of the fields into a table and tried to run the report (still inside the BIDS). But I failed with an error: The report preview failed because the report could not be built. Read...
If you're following this blog, then you know that Sunday, May 30 th 2010, I went to the SQL & BI Data Platform convention held in Tel Aviv. Specifically, I went to Mr. Donald Farmer 's seminar on Data Integration in Large Organizations . I did live blogging from most of the event, though actually, I didn't manage to blog about the last part of it, because I was preparing for something that was pretty big for me.... I'll start over. When I first heard Mr. Farmer was coming to lecture...
The municipality has been planning to move to SQL Server 2008 R2 . Now obviously I'm happy about it, but it also made me wonder about our Report Builder 1.0 models. I know Report Builder 3.0 doesn't have all the functionality that Report Builder 1.0 has. In some ways Report Builder 3.0 outdoes version 1.0 and in other ways it's lacking. I was deliberating on how the move of upgrading to SQL Server 2008 R2 may affect us in the municipality. I mean, does that make our Report Models from...
As you may have read , I've got a ticket to give away for the first SQL & BI convention which is taking place at the end of this month in Tel Aviv. Yes, I'm going to give you a ticket which will grant you a pass to a day of lectures about all the new features in SQL Server 2008 R2. The lectures in the convention are aimed at helping you learn of the new features and how they can help you in your day to day work. The ticket to a day at the convention is worth 900 shekels - but for the...
Well I guess the rumors had it right, because the first day of PASS Europe , Microsoft announced the release to manufacturing of SQL Server 2008 R2 . The main attraction, for me at least, will be PowerPivot (and DAX) and Report Builder 3.0 (with its shared datasets, maps and new calculations). Now, if you have a one track mind like me, first thing you would look for is SQL Server 2008 R2 Express editions, or in plain English - the free versions! Well, if you live in the US, then look no further my...
I knew from Russell Christopher's blog that Microsoft All UP BI Demo version 9.2 was released to partners , but as I'm not a registered partner, that didn't help me much... So I was delighted to discover today from the RDA blog that "Microsoft has configured a remote server for general public to get hands on experience with this new BI version 9.2 solution" - so yes, you can take that baby off for a spin! You need to register to the site first, run a .exe to enable the ActiveX...
Import and Integration Modeling Export and Subscription חלק מה modeling הוא tracking of instances כלומר...
Microsoft just announced SQL Server 2008 R2 release date and it’s May 2010 – not too far ahead… SQL Server 2008 R2 along with SharePoint 2010, Excel 2010, PowerPivot and Report Builder 3.0 are all strengthening Microsoft’s hold in the BI Market, covering more and more ground in aspects of Self Service BI and empowering the users. SQL Server 2008 R2 November CTP is still available for download and the development team is still interested in your feedback about it. Start the countdown…
Just in case you haven’t heard of them till now, SQL Server Worldwide Users Group (or SSWUG ) hosts a great deal of information about all sorts of platforms – be it SQL Server, Oracle systems, MySQL etc. They also have a forum for your questions and a script library for your use. So why have I been talking on SSWUG? Because though they are hosting an event on PowerPivot (which I’ll talk about shortly), I think you should also consider them for additional information. And now – to PowerPivot ! You...
Microsoft just released SQL Server 2008 R2 November CTP. The November CTP is "feature complete" so this should be close to the real thing, before they ship SQL Server 2008 R2 in 2010. I guess you could tell from the news coming from PASS that this would be in the wings. First of all, there was word that the next CTP would be delivered during November (which translates to: now!) and secondly, projects that before would be code named - now have their formal name. Madison is now Parallel Data...
Microsoft has released today SQL Server 2008 R2 CTP1 (formerly known as Kilimanjaro ) to the general public after it was available for two days already to TechNet and MSDN subscribers. Except for adding more features to help DBAs and developers work against the databases, SQL Server 2008 R2 CTP1also offers Report Builder 3.0. Yes, it’s true, you just blinked and already Microsoft has released a new version to Report Builder. The enhanced visualization from Dundas gages and charts is still there and...
You know how they say “time just flies by you”? I think the year 2010 is coming quicker than I thought, and with it the new SQL Server 2010 , code named Madison. Microsoft has announced that it is planning a Technology Preview for Madison in early July, so if you have a petabyte size DW then you might be one of the lucky customers invited to take project Madison for a test drive. Other announcements (coinciding with TechEd 2009), are of new features available in SQL Server 2008 R2 such as Master...
