Panorama Nova View (

We're currently using Panorama Nova View 6.2 in the municipality and we had a presentation of the upcoming version - Panorama Necto. So what's new? Well, first of all - now there's just one entry point to Panorama, both for the user and the developer. So that's one entry point instead of one for the flash, java, desktop and dashboard. We're still using the desktop environment in Panorama 6.2 and we've come across more than once that things work in the desktop but for some...
TechEd North America 2011 wrapped up last week with big news about PowerPivot and SSAS. Just in case you haven't read it already somewhere else, I'll give you a very short re-cap. In SQL Server 2005, the UDM was supposed to encapsulate the solution for modeling your project. In SQL Server 11, codename Denali, it's going to be replaced by BISM - the Business Intelligence Semantic Model. All the reporting tools in the Microsoft BI Stack will work against this model. In Denali, you will...
Mr. Amir Netz , Distinguished Engineer at Microsoft, came to lecture about Self - Service BI and Panorama, along with Kobi Averbuch , VP of R&D at Panorama . These are a few of the major points in their lecture: PowerPivot IT cannot meet all demands. People will try to find a solution themselves. We need a technology to bridge the gap. How to build a PowerPivot application We start by installing the PowerPivot add - in. PowerPivot runs in - memory using the Vertipaq engine that ensures quick...
A while ago, I saw Panorama was advertising a webcast detailing how Panorama gives a complete solution for the entire Microsoft BI platform , including PowerPivot . I have to admit, just seeing Panorama and PowerPivot in the same sentence seemed odd to me, as PowerPivot seemed like a completely full solution for its purpose. I didn't see what Panorama had to add to the equation. And so I began asking Panorama a few questions... So where does Panorama offer any added value? Well, if your organization...
I’m very glad to say that not too long ago I got to see a demo on Panorama Nova View 6 with the rest of the BI team, enabling me to further give you detail on it. The demo covered quite a few of the major products: NovaView Analytics – which existed in previous version though it’s UI has changed NovaView Flash Analytics – which is one of the new features in this version NovaView Smart Reporting NovaView Dashboards NovaView Executive Dashboards NovaView Universal Data Connector – which is another...
Well I guess this means Panorama wants a bigger piece of the pie. In a very impressive and interesting webcast which was given Tuesday, March 31 st , Panorama showcased Nova View 6 RC1. So what are the promises given in the webcast and what was shown? Well for me, the biggest news was that from now on, Panorama Nova View will connect not just to cubes, but also to RDBMS – yes, a relational data source! And, you'll be able to create a dashboard which includes a report on both data sources. This...
In a newsletter I received the other day from Panorama , I read some interesting news. Remember how I told you I was waiting for the .Net version of the Panorama Nova View ? Well, I guess I really will have to wait some more... In their newsletter, Panorama promises to release Nova View version 5.5 What's new to the product? Better UI and "elements of flash components and more robust dashboarding features." A check with customer support gave me some more details, the most important...
Well I’m waiting for the .Net version of Panorama Nova View. But I guess I can see there are more important people in line… Today I found myself reading in the news that Panorama has joined forces with Google Apps to give the Pivot Table and Pivot Chart capabilities to the Google spreadsheet. Up till now I have seen Panorama’s add – in to the Microsoft Excel, but as Microsoft has been pushing Proclarity forward, Google might well be a fresh alternative! So if you’re using Google Apps, you might very...
I have recently discovered a brand tool to help me better understand my work. It's a free tool from the Microsoft SDK . Specifically, I'm talking about the Rowset Viewer . The Rowset Viewer was intended for you to "view and manipulate OLE DB rowsets, with the added ability to call and manipulate other OLE DB methods from the data source, session, command, rowset, transaction, and notification objects supported by any OLE DB provider." I found myself using the tool so as to understand...
Well I guess congratulations are in order because I finally got around to using a report builder in my project. Turns out that building a report model based on a cube is as easy as 1-2-3. Still I had a problem, as for some unknown reason the translations were showing for my dimension names and my measures, but not for the dimension's attributes... At first I thought maybe this is a problem solved by Service Pack 2 (as my tests were done on a Server with Service Pack 1). Alas, no. So, a further...
You can browse a cube through the cube browser in Analysis Services or through the one in the Management Studio. I usually use the one in the Management Studio, as it gives your more space to look. In the cube I created in Analysis Services, I added a Budget hierarchy in my Budget dimension. I decided to check the data for the new hierarchy in comparison to the money that was assigned to it in the Budget fact table. And it was problematic… I was opening the Budget hierarchy and in the first 3 levels...
Panorama Nova View Analytics is a viewer on a cube which enables you to drag and drop attributes and measures onto a grid, so as to study the influences different slicers and dicers have on a measure. Each combination of slicers and dicers with a certain measure, can be saved as a presentation (the name in Panorama for a dynamic report). The presentation is dynamic, as you can change not only the filters on the existing attributes (as in Reporting Services), but also add new attributes and remove...
