Windows 8 With Windows Media Center
If you know me, you must know that I am a Windows Media Center centric guy. I have WMC machine in the living room, in the kitchen, in any of my children’s computer in their rooms and in my bed room. We watch TVs using the Media Center. I was one of the WMC evangelist when Microsoft embed the Media Center as part of Windows Vista (On Windows XP, you had to install a specific Windows XP Media Center edition). Yes, originally Microsoft wanted to build an echo system around Media Center with add-ons and 3rd party content providers. Microsoft also delivered EPG for long time of period. But the reality is that it didn’t sell. Few people have bought Windows for its WMC features. All people that bought Windows have paid for the ability to play DVDs, use codecs, and have EPG data that they have never needed. To reduce the cost of Windows 8 Microsoft decided to focus on the features that most of the users use, and sadly the WMC is not one of them, however WMC is still there, you will need to buy it separately as a Windows 8 add on feature. This will be available after the official release to the public of Windows 8 on October 26. Until then you can read this post to have it right away:
