Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Beta in July (aprox.)
For those of us who’ve been ( or seen Microsoft Office System Developers Conference 2006 Videos ) the Microsoft SharePoint Conference of 2006, know that in the demos you saw the Beta of both Office 2007 & Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
Based on that, and on the fact that from the Office 2010 Movie , the Office 2010 Beta will be realsed on July – The beta of Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 will be on the same time ( as well as Microsoft Project Sever 2010 ).
Want more proof ? who’s this as a title Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 beta in two months. Not only that, but is seems that the IT part of the SharePoint product has reached enough confidence to open it’s own blog - Microsoft Office 2010 IT Blog ( something that most of us used to do by reading Joel Oleson's Blog ). To make things complete - Microsoft Office 2010 Discussion Forum , now you don’t start a forum unless you have a product & audience , right ?
Changes to expect ? here are just a few
Office SharePoint Server 2007 Product Site NEW!
Based on Silverlight & Moss2007 (http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/Pages/Default.aspx, look at the URL ! ) the new Office SharePoint Server 2007 Product Site was launched.
Thought the Microsoft SharePoint Team Blog post on SharePoint on SharePoint: Launch of new website redirects to the previous URL , http://www.microsoft.com/sharepoint/ , the new URL , http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/Pages/Default.aspx , realy SHOW(s) ME THE MONEY ;) … or in other words , if you believe in the product then show it ! ( especially if it’s the product’s Homepage )

BizTalk 2009 Virtual Labs
We all remember the BizTalk 2009 RTM just a few days a go, and now comes an Update/Refresh to the Visual Labs :
Take into notice that one of them is about BizTalk 2006R2 (Sending EDI Messages with BizTalk Server 2006 R2 ). I haven’t done this virtual lab yet , so I’m not sure it was upgraded to the 2009 Version.
Bootable Windows 7 on USB
I don’t about you, but for me Windows 7 is really the new XP ( at home I have both XP & Vista – one on each computer) , So making a bootable version of the OS from a diskOnKey is somewhat useful and here is the link
Making a Win7 Bootable USB device.
Moss2007 / Wss 3.0 PDF iFilter from Microsoft
You have to admit that the title caught you’re eye ;)
Well, for now this is just a speculation, and it’s based on the simple fact that with the new age of Moss2007, Wss 3.0 & Office2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) RTM – came a small , and just as important add-on to the Office Suite 2007 : Save as PDF !
Now in case you missed it Portable Document Format ( AKA PDF ) is
“Formerly a proprietary format, PDF was officially released as an open standard on July 1, 2008, and published by the International Organization for Standardization as ISO 32000-1:2008” {http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pdf}
That said, I don’t have to tell you that almost in each organization that I meet ( that Installed Wss or Moss ) , PDF IS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON DOCUMENT FORMAT saved on the server !
On the other hand, there’s the Enterprise Search, now to be dependent on Adobe for an add-on for the search engine ? for a format that EACH OFFICE DOCUMENT CAN EXPORT TO ?!?
I think that BOART phrased that the best “NOT !!!”
So, in short, I won’t be surprised if Microsoft will release, in the very near future, a Free PDF iFilter to their Wss3/Moss2007 Product :)
SharePoint 2007/WSS 3.0 SP2 & April CU
Just incase you didn’t know Moss2007, Wss 3.0 & Office2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) RTM is based on the Feb CU and does not contains April CU fixes !
So, first, it’s highly recommend to install SP2.
And then In case you need it, install the April CU as well
Suggested steps to upgrade:
- Have a test environment similar to your productive.
- Create a complete backup for all SharePoint data.
- Install SP2.
- Test the environment.
- Install April CU.
- Test the environment (test specific things which the April CU should have fixed).
- All went well ? try to install on production environment.
April CU KB articles
For WSS there’s package with the KB 968850. This package contains the two KB 968857 (Global) and KB 969421 (Language specific) hotfix packages.
The some of the KB articles are not yet finished !
