WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 SDK 1.4 Released

WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 SDK 1.4 Released

The Microsoft SharePoint Team Blog has just announced about Just Published! WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 SDK 1.4 Download and Online MSDN Library.

Let’s start with the downloads:

What’s New in this release?

The SDK updates in 1.4 include:

You can also update the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Tools: Visual Studio 2008 Extensions, Version 1.2 - Released

Microsoft WAS NOT the one who brought the PC ( Personal Computer ) into the Homes

In israel, perhaps it is thought different, because with the dawn of Win95, at that stage personal computers were made available to the general population. The Win3.11 was left of for geeks ( like me ), not talking about the MultiView, a PC-DOS & MS-DOS ( yes, there were two of them ;) ) which used the graphics card library to make use of the 10 “pages” it had so you could have several DOS windows “opened” on a DOS operating system ( if you can call it operating system that is )

Yehh.. these were the days when I bought my first IBM ( as opposed to Apple , not Intel ) PC. It was a 1MB RAM and 40MB HardDisk with 256 Colors (!) and it had a Pre-Version of the OS/2 Operating System ( BTW it was a PS/1 )

Why am I reminiscing over these thoughts ? that’s because I went to the O’Reilly web site and found this article, The Mac at 25: Andy Hertzfeld Looks Back, which showed me how old I am … yes yes , MY FIRST HOME COMPUTER WAS AN APPLE! , just like forest gump said “the fruit company” – I have 3 years experience on an “Apple II C” ;). But assure you, you won’t see it in my CV :D

But, as time told ( and one of my university teachers told me ) “being nice and smart” does not always make you a better company ( which has a better revenue ).

Everybody hated Microsoft, but now, after 25 years, we see what has Apple & Sun ( Unix / Linux example ) has to offer, and what Microsoft has to offer. Just like driving in Tel-Aviv “you have to push sometimes” ( as opposed to being nice ) in order to reach your goals.

How to install Wss3.0/Moss2007 SP1 on Vista

How to install Wss3.0/Moss2007 SP1 on Vista

This is based on an old article , which at first I didn’t give that much thought, BUT, after doing several Installs of Moss & Sql2008 on My Win2008Std VPC … I started to think that “heck not every body has the a small server at home , or on a local machine at work !”
So here comes a solution from the The Bamboo Team Blog , which I read a while a go, and thought of sharing - How to install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP1 on Vista x64/x86

Sharepoint 2007 DRP

Sharepoint 2007 DRP

High availability is one of the key issues in Moss2007 ( as like any other enterprise based application ) – Especially if the Moss provides the Central point for Content resources of a major Healthcare Industry ( which means 24-7 round the clock usage ! )

There are several 3rd party products which perform very complicated recovery issues in Both Sps2003 and Moss2007 , but there is a talk that in the next ServicePack if the Moss/Wss is based on a SqlServer 2008 – the versioning of Files could be done on a FileSystem infrastructure. If all of this is true ( this just a hear-say ), this would eliminate the need to restore on a different server the last backup in order to retrieve a single file :’(

So for now all we can do is read more articles in the Backup, Recovery, and Availability Resource Center for SharePoint Server 2007

Webcast – Internet Explorer 8.0 Beta Developer Tools Script Debug [HE-IL]

On our previous Webcast (Webcast – Internet Explorer 8.0 Beta Developer Tools Intro [HE-IL]) we’ve seen a handful of features which the IE 8.0 Developer Tools supply.
In this Webcast, we’ll see a deeper overview of Script Debugging capabilities which comes as part of the IE 8.0 Developer Tools

The Webcast can be downloaded from here

Silverlight2 Beta2 + IE 8.0 Beta1 = Crash

Due to the fact that I have been playing with them both lately I have decided to see how far the beta of IE has reached regarding “simple” integration with other Microsoft web based application – well Silverlight 2.0 Beta2 wasn’t test that well

BUT, if you use IE 7 Emulate , the Silvelight Clocks ( my test sample ) works just fine ;)

BizTalk / Moss Virtualization Issues [Hyper-V]

BizTalk / Moss Virtualization Issues [Hyper-V]

BizTalk

Ok, lets start with this one, just because it was left alone in recent days ;)

BizTalk has a final release approval regarding virtualization on Hyper-V. for those who don’t know:  “Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, the next-generation hypervisor-based server virtualization technology, allows you to make the best use of your server hardware investments by consolidating multiple server roles as separate virtual machines (VMs) running on a single physical machine.”

The MSDN Link BizTalk Server 2006 R2 Hyper-V Guide, and the TechNet Link BizTalk Server 2006 R2 Hyper-V Guide symbols that the approval is official and the step to virtualization of major Servers under the Microsoft Platforms has complete it’s final stage ( Unlike Virtual Server 2005 R2 )

Moss

Some of us still fight the concept of virtualization of any server, especially SharePoint. When I was a SysAdmin, back in my 1st degree University days, a good friend of mine thought me a very important concept that Symbols to me most of the System Admin people “A Good SysAdmin is a SysAdmin who never needs to get up from his chair other then going to Launch & Toilet” – This is still true to all SysAdmins around the world.

That said here are a few words:

KB909840, “Hardware virtualization support for SharePoint products and technologies.”  states that Wss 3.0 & Moss2007 are supported in production if they’re on Virtual Server 2005 R2 or later.

Also KB897615 states how third party virtualization is not supported at all if you don’t have Premier level support, and Microsoft will use “commercially reasonable efforts” Only if you DO have Premier level support.

Ok, but we’re talking about Hyper-V here, what about Hyper-V support? So do we support Wss 3.0 & Moss2007 with Hyper-V?

So currently as of 8/8/08 ( nice date ;) ) “we” are awaiting the Official statement to come out in few weeks, until then I *assume* Microsoft Support may provide Commercial Reasonable Support.

Hopefully these links should be handy to get you going and select Virtual environment :).

Webcast – Internet Explorer 8.0 Beta Developer Tools Intro [HE-IL

Internet Explorer 8.0 has done a major jump for the HTML developer. Many features that were missing in the previous caught up in this version, things like:

  • CSS 2.1 & 3.0 Support
  • Standardization to W3C definitions
  • Better security (CardSpace)
  • And Developer Tools, which in IE 7.0 were an AddOn ( Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar )

In this Webcast, we would see an introduction of the Developer Toolbar
