Silverlight 2.0 Beta1 SDK & Tools

Silverlight 2.0 Beta1 SDK & Tools

microsoft_silverlight_c After seeing that there is a possibility to Developing Silverlight2B1 with Visual Express ( you all know about my dotNetExpress project ) I have decided to take it ( Silverlight ) more seriously. The fact that there is a Silverlight Blueprint for SharePoint ( Services ) and that Nokia is working with Microsoft to enable Silverlight in all it's mobile phones , just adhere this fact.

Ok, now to the point of this article - this weekend I have decided to install the Silverlight 2.0 Beta1 Tools for VisualStudio 2008 ( it's about time ). Well it seems that the Microsoft Silverlight Tools Beta 1 for Visual Studio 2008 refuse to install it self if you have already installed Microsoft® Silverlight™ 2 Software Development Kit Beta 1 - This is might be due to the fact that the Tools already contain in it the SDK - but I don't this that should bother, but it seems that it does. In short if you have installed the SDK and now want to install the Tools, UnInstall the SDK and all should work :(

BTW,  as soon as i'll get this ( Developing Silverlight2B1 with Visual Express ) working i'll do a webcast ( EN & HE ) - For now, I succeded in compiling, but I can't find any "ClientBin" directory ( in the Visual C# Express )

Vista SP1 and Camtasia

Vista SP1 and Camtasia

I don't know about you , but I'm disappointed of the SP1 - why ? both camtasia 4.0 and 5.0 don't work on Vista SP1 machine ( mine anyway , vista business 32bit )

So if you're recording using Camtasia, beware before you install the SP1 - I've uninstalled mine !

All from BenkoTIPS.com. As far as I know all Webcasts are at level 100. But in order to see MOST of the options that comes with MOSS ( leaving out WSS ) this can be a great starting point.

LinqToSql - C# vs VB Architecture Consideration : Cache Feature

LinqToSql - C# vs VB Architecture Consideration : Cache Feature

One of the most common Architecture considerations when building a new Application is what is the quality of the Developers them selves - Well some of the times they are VB.NET programmers ( which I didn't say is a bad thing ). Well I had the opportunity to work with VB.NET programmers.

What can I say , once in a while it happens to me too - when talking in English I'm sometimes translating a Hebrew sentence into English as is ( and I'm talking about US English ! British ? I have to brush up a bit ). Never mind, going back to our subject - LinqToSql - it seems that if you do the same for LinqToSql in C# to VB9 : YOU SHOULD LOOK UNDER THE HOOD MORE CAREFULLY !

Silverlight Logo - Just good taste

Silverlight Logo - Just good taste

Just a few days a go I ran into this post thoughts on silverlight logo - "default OSX wallpaper". If you'd scroll down the article you'd find the base picture for my "paper clip"

For those with an iPhone you should also have it as one of the backgrounds - Aqua Wallpapers for iPhone

And here's a "live" version ( BTW notice the IE )

Silverlight Blueprint for SharePoint ( Services )

Silverlight Blueprint for SharePoint ( Services )

Yes, it was filed under MSDN > Developer Centers > Windows SharePoint Services
Isn't it wonderful when you know that such a wonderful thing like Silverlight will be supported on WSS ( so it goes also to MOSS )

SoftwarePlusService-Blueprints

It seems that this is a S+S Blueprints which are installed into the Visual Studio environment to give developers easy access to application templates and guidance.

Overview

The Silverlight Blueprint for SharePoint is source code and guidance for developers describing how to use Microsoft Silverlight and Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies together in business applications and Internet Web sites. SharePoint applications that use Web Parts can now be built using Silverlight user interface elements. This capability enables a fresh look at data exposed through SharePoint Products and Technologies using the modern graphics capability in Silverlight.

What is included in the download?

Six application component samples are included in the kit to get you started:

  • A simple “hello, world” sample showing Silverlight in a Web part.
  • A Silverlight slider control as a SharePoint custom field type.
  • A navigation control.
  • A Colleague Viewer that uses lookups in Active Directory by using Windows Communication Foundation.
  • A Silverlight picture viewer from a SharePoint picture library.
  • A visual how-to center, created in Silverlight and based on a SharePoint list, for viewing videos.
Requirements
  • Silverlight is required. The example download that is available uses Silverlight.
  • Visual Studio 2008 and Microsoft Expression Blend are required for designing the Silverlight XAML for the user experience.
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 or Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 are also required to host the SharePoint applications and the contained Silverlight Web Parts.

SQL Server 2008 Server Service Configuration

SQL Server 2008 Server Service Configuration

Due to the fact that the SQL Server 2008 February CTP Is Now Available is the closest thing that there is to the SQL 2008 RTM, counting the seconds. I have decided to install this CTP.

But, each time I have installed I've chosen all  possible options which is the DatabaseEngine AND the AnalysisServices AND the ReportingServices ... and EACH TIME the DatabaseEngine and ReportingServices would fail or if i've didn't check the SSAS then it would work. In the end i've found the right combination - here it is

Sql Server 2008 Service Configuration

So don't use NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE anywhere except for the SqlBrowser ( that was one of my mistakes )
