A user can’t see Panorama view on a new cube

Friday, March 28, 2014

We had a book in Panorama NovaView which we had made about a year ago. The book had views that were all based on the same PowerPivot cube which was published to a SharePoint Server (so it was recognized as cube by the viewer). So, a year had passed and we needed to add to our book new views which would be based on a new PowerPivot cube. The data in both cubes was about workers in different units and the authorizations on the cubes were given so that every manger would see just the workers in his units....

OfficeWriter v8 for SSRS

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

SoftArtisans have approached me to write a review about OfficeWriter v8 integration with SSRS. Your first question would be: what's OfficeWriter? :) OfficeWriter is an application that works with Reporting Services in two ways: 1. It Allows you to design a report in Word or Excel and render it to an RDL 2. It allows you to take data from an RDL report and use it in a Word or Excel document I believe just those two point hold within them quite a lot, but we'll get to that shortly. I decided to try my hand at creating a report on Adventure Works data: I...

Model Item Security and Identifying Attributes in Report Builder

Thursday, October 6, 2011

I found myself needing to define Model Item Security on a Report Builder 1.0 Model I did some time ago. I followed the guidelines detailed in the Model Item Security page (you can read more also about Securing Models). First of all, I would like to call to your attention that Model Item Security works only if your user isn't a Content Manager or Publisher (as noted in this article about Security in Report Builder 1.0. Please note that it describes the process in the way it worked in SQL Server 2005, which has changed for SQL Server 2008...

PowerPivot and Panorama Nova View

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Mr. Amir Netz, Distinguished Engineer at Microsoft, came to lecture about Self - Service BI and Panorama, along with Kobi Averbuch, VP of R&D at Panorama. These are a few of the major points in their lecture: PowerPivot IT cannot meet all demands. People will try to find a solution themselves. We need a technology to bridge the gap. How to build a PowerPivot application We start by installing the PowerPivot add - in. PowerPivot runs in - memory using the Vertipaq engine that ensures quick time response. All this is without indexing and caching. We connect to the various data sources and bring the data...

Visual Totals in MDX and Role Security

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

Well I thought today we'd go over visual totals in MDX and also see how they may have an impact on how you assign role based security in you SSAS project. Visual Totals in MDX are there to give you just what they describe – a sum on the children in a certain set. Child members which are not in the specified set will be ignored during the calculation. For instance, if I have a set that consists of: USA, New York, Washington and California, when I look at the total for USA, I will only see it's sum...

Synchronizing Roles in Panorama

Saturday, September 15, 2007

Panorama Nova View Analytics is a viewer on a cube which enables you to drag and drop attributes and measures onto a grid, so as to study the influences different slicers and dicers have on a measure. Each combination of slicers and dicers with a certain measure, can be saved as a presentation (the name in Panorama for a dynamic report). The presentation is dynamic, as you can change not only the filters on the existing attributes (as in Reporting Services), but also add new attributes and remove the old ones, creating a new presentation altogether from the one...
