SQL Server 2014 CTP2 Released

Last week, during his keynote session at PASS 2013, Mr. Quentin Clark announced the release of SQL Server 2014 CTP2. No new features were discussed which weren't mentioned in SQL Server 2014 CTP1, but it was definitely a more detailed show of power of Hekaton (in – memory OLTP) and the development towards the work in the cloud. Just in case you haven't heard yet, SQL Server 2014 is already in the works. Release cycle for SQL Server has become one of 2 years lately and not 3 (SQL Server 2008, 2008 R2 and 2012) and this is no exception. SQL Server 2014 was first discussed in the last TechEd with a few sessions taking an overview of its main features:Hekaton - in memory built into the SQL Server engine for OLTP and data warehousing. Hekaton was already previewed in a few sessions in TechEd, mostly talking about the advantages it brings to OLTP.More accessibility to the cloud...

SQL Server 2008 R2 November CTP

Microsoft just released SQL Server 2008 R2 November CTP. The November CTP is "feature complete" so this should be close to the real thing, before they ship SQL Server 2008 R2 in 2010. I guess you could tell from the news coming from PASS that this would be in the wings. First of all, there was word that the next CTP would be delivered during November (which translates to: now!) and secondly, projects that before would be code named - now have their formal name. Madison is now Parallel Data Warehouse and boasts scalability for the 100+ terabyte DWH...
